What customers say?

“ Hey! Routier???????? is finally checked off my list after being on it forever! Highly recommend booking ahead—it’s a San Francisco hotspot! Here’s what we ordered: Chicken Liver Mousse
With caramelized onion, red currant compote (with a hint of fenugreek), and crunchy caramelized multigrain crisps. The portion was huge—we couldn’t finish it! Hen of the Woods Mushrooms ????
“Au poivre” style with egg yolk and crushed potato. A unique dish, unlike anything at other places—definitely a must-try! Dungeness Crab Pavé
Signature crispy potato pavé with spiced Dungeness crab and preserved lemon mayo. The crab was fresh and delicious! Pork Confit
Pork shoulder confit with braised cabbage, roasted carrots, and black trumpet jus. The pork was so tender—loved every bite! Duck Confit
Duck confit with heirloom apple, turnips, pumpkin, and sour orange jus. The skin was nice and crispy, and the veggies balanced the meat perfectly. Strawberry “Napoleon”
Strawberry “Napoleon” with vanilla mascarpone and lemon curd. The buttery cookie with the creamy mascarpone and that tangy strawberry-lemon combo was a hit! Overall, I’d rate it: Food: 4.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Can’t wait to go back! ”

“ This really was very good. Wished we had more people with us because it’s best for eating family style. The corn risotto highlighted the corn more than the rice and was gooey with cheddar cheese. I also liked my beet close NA cocktail and the artichoke pepper pave, which is sliced potatoes smushed together in a square shape - tastes like a tater tot. Make a reservation! ”

“ Routier is an absolute gem along California Avenue. The food, plating presentation, service, ambiance, lighting, and cleanliness of the bathroom are all remarkable. While I enjoyed both the summer squash (zucchini) appetizer and chocolate mousse, the star of the show is definitely the hanger steak main. I highly recommend the Roasted Hanger Beef! It's super tender drenched in rich savory sauce-- worthy of a Michelin recognition. I am very excited to visit again to try more dishes for a more thorough review. ”

“ Routier evokes a charming, casual French bistro laced with California accents. The food is very good, save for the disappointing cold, hard baguette and so-so duck terrine "Snacks". We ordered family style so we could sample several dishes on one meal. I highly recommend the Hen of the woods mushrooms au poivre, the Sweet corn 'oh so tender and creamy" risotto), the Pressed "melt in your mouth" lamb shoulder, and the Pork shoulder confit with its crispy skin and tender meat. The highlight of the meal for me must be the Persimmon "Napoleon", which our friendly waiter Juan reveals comes from B Patisserie. ”

“ A very lively French restaurant with a nice clean and short menu of great options like duck and risotto. Speaking of risotto, it was a corn and mushroom risotto that was to die for. Very filling! Everyone at the table tried it and loved it. Sweet and savory and unique. They have a high corkage fee ($45) but otherwise everything else was very reasonable and lovely! ”

“ Wonderful restaurant, their Sushi was absolutely incredible, hands down one of the best dishes I've ever had. The Lamb was ok, not the best but good. Service was great, the people were very careful with my celiac and I had no reaction from eating there. ”

“ Great service and nice vibe. Chicken liver mousse, pork trotter, and tomato salad are all good starter choices. Sword fish has one side breaded prepared which makes it really yummy in flavor and texture. Out standing service here as well. ”

“ In December, we visited Routier for the first time. Although our circumstances were unusual (we bought out the restaurant for a special event), the experience was extraordinary. We chose a family style menu so that everyone could sample more than one dish. The food was seasonal, creative, French-inspired, and delicious. The main dishes were swordfish (with Nardello peppers and matsutake butter) and duck confit (with pumpkin purée and persimmon) accompanied by corn risotto and broccolini. Perhaps at least as important as the outstanding food was the service. From the chef and owner JP Carmona through the entire staff, everyone was highly professional, but friendly and approachable. The restaurant itself had a beautiful décor, in the style of a French bistro. Everyone in our group found the experience to be one we will long cherish. In short, we would highly recommend Routier without qualification! ”
